At work we declared Tuesday to be "Taco Tuesday". My usual is the cheesy bean and rice burrito, "Fresco" which tomato and onion instead of cheese. I get two of these (99 cents each) and a little side of guacamole. Mmmmm.

Day 66: To the Apple store!
My friend from work has gone and got himself an iPhone. For a guy, a guy friend getting a new gadget is just like a girl's girlfriend having a baby. Allow me to illustrate. At around 12 noon, I looked at the clock. My friend just stood up from his cube and looked over. I got excited. "Is it time?" He grinned and nodded yes. Other coworkers sprang from their cubes and were ready to go. We got to the mall, I had my camera ready. We geeked out in the waiting area, while my friend talked to the sales folks.
Now here is the comparison (guy friend with new gadget to girl friend with new baby).
Guy: "Oooh! It's so cool"
Girl: "Oooh! He's so cute"
Guy: "Can I hold it?"
Girl: "Can I hold him?"
Guy: "My friend in Florida got two of them (ya you Brent)"
Girl: "My cousin in California had twins"
Anyway, you get the idea. There is a lot of fun to be had at the Apple store. Nice place.

Odd hosts trying to SSH to my home firewall
I filtered out all the home machines.
Looks mostly like mail servers and gateways. I suspect the gateways really are internal systems that have been "rooted". The mail servers are disturbing though.

Day 64: Nap time
Finally got the lawn mowed today. Whoohoo! Matthew went potty... on the potty so we went out for ice cream as a treat. Yummy.

Day 62: Whatever
I went to the Apple store today. Wow. These guys have simplicity down! I got to play with an iPhone a little bit, and now I can see why my friend, Brent, bought two of them. Very cool.
It's like 90 out, and muggy. Inside my work is very cold and I was doing server work so it was even more cold. I didn't even know I went outside with my sweater on, until I got to car car.

Day 61: Lunch!
This sandwich has been evolving. Sooo tasty!
I'd like to try out cashew butter sometime. I tried to use rice crispies, but they didn't hold the crunch at lunch. I need to use a different bread. Maybe something like that oat bread with a dab of honey.

Day 60: Grand Central Beta!
I got my email from google that they have accepted my request for a GrandCentral account! It's really nice because it's one phone number that you can tie in all your other number into. You can route calls based on caller ID, call hunt, you can even dump numbers on a spam list right into voicemail. I changed my ring (that people hear when they call me) to the Irish ring style. Sweet. Now that I'm home, I get to dig deeper into all the features.

Day 56: Foggy Road
I got to go to the Quabbin today and it was nice and foggy out. I was running late, so I only had a half hour before the park closed, but I got a few pics in there. It's nice to take my 365 photo outside the house once in a while and I liked having the detour.
Forcing myself to take a different route home was a nice wake up to get out of the autopilot mode I fall into. I really liked how the movie "Click" portrayed this autopilot and showed that when you are in auto mode you miss out on your life. At the very least, nothing memorable comes from just cruising along in auto. Life happens when you break from the ordinary.

Day 55: Hate the internet
I've been hating the internet today. Not sure why I'm in this funk. With a bajillion different ways to keep in touch with friends and family, I find it frustrating when neither keeps in touch (except a few mom, Molly and Steph).

Day 54: Blah
I had all sorts of stuff happen but I forgot my camera. I got a new set of tires and an oil change today due to a blown out tire.

Day 53: I'm Fremen!
I tried doing the Dune thing. I wanted to add some glow to my eyes, but I couldn't figure it out. Well, this is what I would look like if I was Fremen. I was going to stick a tube in my nose but I couldn't find anything that would look right.

Beware the military-industrial complex
This post is for my brother who is in love with the military.
You have to ask yourself why a former president found it necessary to warn it's population (and we didn't listen, and pretty much still don't) about this danger.
I especially like this part:
Iraq, Patriot Act, Habeas corpus, Homeland Security... Can security and liberty co-exist in the U.S. today?
Eisenhower Farewell speech (with audio)
Until the latest of our world conflicts, the United States had no armaments industry. American makers of plowshares could, with time and as required, make swords as well. But we can no longer risk emergency improvisation of national defense. We have been compelled to create a permanent armaments industry of vast proportions. Added to this, three and a half million men and women are directly engaged in the defense establishment. We annually spend on military security alone more than the net income of all United States cooperations -- corporations.
Now this conjunction of an immense military establishment and a large arms industry is new in the American experience. The total influence -- economic, political, even spiritual -- is felt in every city, every Statehouse, every office of the Federal government. We recognize the imperative need for this development. Yet, we must not fail to comprehend its grave implications. Our toil, resources, and livelihood are all involved. So is the very structure of our society.
In the councils of government, we must guard against the acquisition of unwarranted influence, whether sought or unsought, by the military-industrial complex. The potential for the disastrous rise of misplaced power exists and will persist. We must never let the weight of this combination endanger our liberties or democratic processes. We should take nothing for granted. Only an alert and knowledgeable citizenry can compel the proper meshing of the huge industrial and military machinery of defense with our peaceful methods and goals, so that security and liberty may prosper together.

Ok, this isn't my 365 photo, but I liked this one better. Happy Friday everyone.

Day 49: Clean Desk
I now have a clean open desk. The only other thing on it is my phone (behind me). I even cleaned up all the wires under the desk. A cluttered desk is a cluttered mind. The desktop background is a picture I took of a line of matchbox cars that my son lines up.

Day 48: Driving a hybrid!
The company I work for got new cars and the one I happen to get for the day was one of them. It took me a while to figure out how to start it. I love the push button to start. There is no key which was funky too. I had to stop from looking at the MPG guage and the little thing that let you know where the energy was going, like if it's coming from the battery or the engine. The brakes are very touchy on this thing.

Day 47: Boy it's hot!
I -think- it's about 100 degrees and ~80% humidity. I don't have AC in my car (I need a recharge), so when I start going and roll down my window it's like getting a hair dryer right in the face.

Day 44: Helping the farm
Today, the kids and I helped out a little on a farm. I'm not too familiar with what it's all called, but you can volunteer to work on the farm, and the food that is grown is given to the poor. Well, not so much the poor as it's given to the hungry. The kids pulled weeds and I pounded in stakes for the tomato plants. You can barely see them in the back ground of the picture to my left (your right).

Day 42: Buddhist Society vist
Today, my mom and I decided to go see what the Buddhist Society near us was all about. It turns out this was built by a monk, Ajahn Amaro who studied under Ajahn Chah, just like Ajahn Brahm from BSWA.

Day 39: Time to quit
I've been slowly improving myself. I have been losing weight, stopped my caffeine intake, and ended up becoming vegetarian. Now to stop the last thing that is killing me. Maybe by making it more formal, this time will stick. I had hoped to start this on the first of July, but better late than never!
Next month, exercise!
