I haven't talked much about my plants since I started the passive system. It's nice to have the plants watered all the time, but I should have used a cloth that was made from artificial material. I can see some of the cloth turning to black which means I need to redo the pots soon.
One thing I didn't count on was being able to see the roots of the plant with this setup. Once I say this, I knew this was something the kids should setup. The growth in the plants seems slow and I don't see the long vine growth that Pothos usually has. I am getting new leaves, but still no vine growth at the moment.

I have three pots of good, healthy, and similar plants. My next move is to put one in soil, one in a new wick system (passive), and another in an ebb and flow system. The thing holding me up right now is just getting a timer for the pump. I'll also need to get some kind of nylon rope or something to make a wick that isn't going to go bad on me.

Hrm... not growing well?
Slow growth like that could be caused by too little nutrients, or being root-bound, which doesn't seem likely.
What about shock? Anything that might be freaking them out?
Light? Too much or too little? Not growing longer would tend to mean a whole lot of light (which discourages the urge to grow tall/far to get more light), but I don't imagine that's the trouble either.
perplexing...
Ah, I can see your problem. Literally. Hydrocult was close.
Roots need the dark - I sure hope you see this soon. Your plants will die if you don't keep the roots in the dark!
A few layers of duct tape should be enough, but something more opaque would be best, like some spray-on black paint (make sure it's something that will stick to plastic.)
Hope it's not too late!
Might want to check out a good newsletter or something for some growing tips. I like the one Advanced Nutrients does. Just go to their website, you can't miss the link from there.
Good luck!
